JEREMIAH VELOSO (also called “Jer” by those close to him) has worked as a Physical Therapist for over three decades after he emigrated with his family from the Philippines in 1996.
Nevertheless, as much as he treasures the time he spends with patients, his affinity for the field of Martial Arts has kept him anchored and disciplined throughout his adult life. Inspired by the 1970s, iconic Kung-Fu films and influential martial artists like Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jet Lee, he began formally training in 1987. Year after year, Jer's skills evolved as he honed his craft from various disciplines such as Karate, Sari-An (a hybrid version of Jeet Kune Do, Muay Thai, and Bare-Knuckle/Street-fighting), Carlos Hermanos Eskrima/Arnis (a hybrid of the three principal Filipino Eskrima Masters: Ilustrisimo Kali, Pekiti Tirsia Kali, and Caballeros Kali), Kempo, American Kickboxing, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). From these disciplines, he earned four black belts.
Jer has been teaching people to move functionally and efficiently since he was 18-years-old, both in the field of Physical Therapy and Martial Arts. He currently holds a second-degree BJJ black belt, and is one of the instructors at Iron Horse Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, teaching Beginners-Gi and Advance-Gi classes. Despite all the knowledge he has amassed, he continually sees himself as a researcher, an understudy, and a hobbyist—enjoying BJJ adventures with his charming wife (a.k.a. his “rib”) as they continue training and growing old together.
